Buy Trachelospermum jasminoides Star jasmine onlineTrachelospermum jasminoides or Star Jasmine – Native to eastern and south eastern Asia, this highly prized woody stemmed climber surprisingly belongs to the periwinkle family. It grows up to 9m tall, though usually much less in the British Isles and can can easily be maintained at about 2m tall.  It has narrow, dark green,  evergreen,  glossy leaves  from 5-10cm long.  The flowers are borne prolifically during the summer months and are white aging to creamy-white. When in flower the whole plant has a very luxurious appearance with a scent that is to die for!

Grow it over a trellis, up a wall, along a fence, or over a doorway where its intoxicating sweet summer scent can be appreciated every time you walk past!  It can also be grown as a ground cover plants or down a bank in mild areas.  It is hardy down to about -5C if well protected. I prefer to grow this fabulous plant in a large container that is brought into a frost free greenhouse for the winter. Of course it can be grown permanently in a conservatory where its scent will overwhelm the summer evenings!
