When you have the Bamboo Palm, you can bring some of the forest into your house. It has a rather simple appearance to it. Usually consisting of only one colour, green. However, the gradients and different shades that it possesses can make a plant of just one colour bring so much colour to any room.

To care for the Bamboo Palm or areca palm, you need to make sure it has good soil. Soil for this plant can easy be brought from most garden centres.  To water the plant be sure to use either soft water or rain water. And make sure to water regularly, but only in the growing season. The surface of the soil should be let to dry slightly before re watering.  It’s best for the plant if you abstain from water throughout the winter.  These plants will require their leaves to be misted on a regular bases, and they like heat but don’t like to be placed too close heat sources.  As with most plants, the Bamboo Palm requires lots of sunlight. However, unlike most other plants that you might come across, they prefer sunlight which has been filtered.

Filtering the sunlight can be done by placing the plant behind other plants, or putting smaller potted plants on the window sill. This will filter out the sunlight making it ideal for the Bamboo Palm.  Although this sunlight should be filtered, it should also be bright.

Bright but filtered sunlight will make these plants very happy indeed, making them ideal for a bedroom or office space.

A lot of the needs for the Bamboo Palm or areca palm come from when it used to live in the wild. This plant is native to the rainforests. In these forest, the light would get filtered through the other plants before reaching it.  In the wild, without a pot to constrain them, them can get up to 8m tall and even grow flowers. However, as long as they’re in a suitable pot, they can remain an appropriate size for your home.  They are also used to having fertile soil.
