A truly spectacular bamboo for the exotic garden, it is described by Paul Whittaker as the eighth wonder of the world in his nursery catalogue. More vigorous than the species, it is a slowly spreading, sometimes clumping bamboo, growing from 6-20m tall but averaging 8m tall in our temperate climate by 1-3 m wide over ten years. It has the best colouration, with great ornamental appeal on the lower sections of the canes (culms), which are bright yellow with green stripes of random varying thickness around the circumference, to a maximum diameter of 13 cm in the warmest locations.
